Helen Marie Price Hyde

DOWNEY – Helen Marie Price Hyde, 97, of Downey, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 1998 in Logan, Utah.

She was born August 18, 1910 in Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of Alonzo Harmon and Wilhemina Gutke Price. Helen attended Albion Normal School, where she received her teaching certificate.

At 18 years of age she began teaching the Primary age group of first, second and third grades. She taught in Readyville, Bancroft, Grace, McCammon and Downey. While teaching school in Downey she met John Milton Hyde. They were married on June 27, 1928 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Mr. Hyde passed away May 10, 1996.

She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and was a 4-H leader for 25 years, and for many years was a supporter and participant in the South Bannock County Fair.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she had served in many capacities.

Helen is survived by one son, Ronald (Beverly) Hyde of West Linn, Oregon; two daughters, Shirley (Seth) Evans of Bayfield, Colorado, and Nola (Jim) Gittins of Smithfield, Utah; 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Davis, of Downey. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 1998, at 1 p.m. in the Downey LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Downey City Cemetery. Arrangements are by Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home
