Hazel Criddle Thomas Carlson

Hazel Criddle Thomas Carlson, 94, of Swan Lake, passed away on Friday May 28, 2010, at her home. Hazel was born March 7, 1916 in Downey, Idaho a daughter of John and Chloe Gunter Criddle. she graduated from Downey High School in 1935. Even though she grew up during the depression, she had a wonderful life on the family farm, where she learned how to sew, cook, and play the piano and violin. she played her violin for many funerals and special occasions during her teen age years. After high school she attended she attended Utah State University. She married the love of her life, Martel W. Thomas in 1937 in the Logan LDS Temple. Together, they owned and operated Thomas Merc in Swan Lake. Hazel and Martel were blessed with six children; Terry, Jed, Ann, Kim, Brad, and Cheryl. Hazel was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. She served in many callings through the years, until she lost her eyesight to macular degeneration. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, quilting, green thumb gardening, piano and violin. She was known throughout the valley for her quilting skills and in selling and marketing quilt fabric. Many of her quilt tops were sent to various locations around the country and world. she was a devoted mother to her children, their spouses and her grandchildren. She has been informational central for her family and will be greatly missed. Hazel and Martel were married for 47 years, before his death in 1984. She later married her long time friend, Grant “Swede” Carlson. They were married for 15 years. Hazel was preceded in death by her husbands, Martel W. Thomas and Grant “Swede” Carlson; her daughter; Ann Littlefield, her daughter in law; Betty Jo Thomas, 2 brothers; Calvin and Reed Criddle and two granddaughters. She is survived by her four sons; Terry (Marty) of Brigham City, Utah; Jed (Sally) of Hoodsport, WA.; son in law; R. Kay Littlefield of Wilmington, NC; Kim (Mary) of Swan Lake; Brad (Donna) of West Jordan, UT. and daughter; Cheryl (David) Packard of Inkom, ID. Her step children; Jackie (Noel) Christensen of Pocatello; Myrna (Ray) Porter of Eagle, ID.; one sister; Maurine Henderson of Sandy, UT. She has 20 grandchildrren, 33 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. The famiyl wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Preston and Malad Hospice workers as well as to Dr. Eskleson, for all their kindness and care provided to Hazel and her family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 5, 2010 at 1:00 pm in the Swan Lake LDS Chapel, with Bishop Brad Gambles, officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday at the church prior to services from 11:00 am-12:45 pm. Burial will follow in the Swan Lake Cemetery.
