Harvey Lee Galloway

Downey…..Harvey Lee Galloway, 75, of Downey, passed away December 20, 2008, at the Portneuf Medical Center, following a stroke, with family members at his side. Harvey was born January 4, 1933, at his home in Dayton, Idaho. a son of Harold and Orilla Clow Archibald Galloway. He grew up in Dayton where he attended grade school and two years of high school at West Side. His family moved to Downey where he completed his junior and senior years and was a graduate of Downey High School, class of 1951. He was an outstanding basketball player and was selected as an All-Star his senior year. Harvey married Marie Stephens on June 23, 1951, at her parent’s home. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They were the parents of two sons and two daughters, Harvey’s first job was at the Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah. Later they moved to Aberdeen, Idaho, where he operated his father’s farm. In 1952, they moved to Downey, where he was employed for the State of Idaho Transportation Dept., retiring in 1995, with 41 years of service. During those years he also operated his dairy farm. Harvey was well known in the area for his guitar playing and singing. He played for many years with the Ramblers. Recently, he was honored with a party at the Downey Senior Citizens, for his years of music service for the seniors. Harvey is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie of Downey; sons; Stephen L. Galloway of Battle Mountain, NV.; Scott D. Galloway of Downey; Daughters; Margaret Ann Olson and Melanie (John) Mills, both of Boise, Idaho. 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; Brothers; Garth (Laura May) of Twin Falls; Berk of Centerville, Utah; Lavell (Lucille) of Woods Cross, Ut.; Kent (Janet) of Amsville, Oregon; sisters; Elizabeth (Max) Green of Farmington, UT.; Valeen (Val) Thomasen of Kaysville, UT. Also surviving are Harvey’s brother in law; Harry (Sharon) Stephens of Pocatello and sister in law; Lila (Blaine) Larkin of Tremonton, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: VaLora Galloway, Naomi Coburn, Katherine Naef and one grandson; Michael Shawn Galloway. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 23, 2008 at 12 noon in the Downey LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, Bishop Ronald Wakley, officiating. Friends may visit with the Galloway family this evening from 6-8 pm at Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home 570 N. Meadowview Dr. in Arimo, and on Tuesday at the Downey church prior to services from 10:30-11:30. Burial will follow in the Downey City Cemetery.
