FATHER OF MALAD WOMAN DIES AT LAYTON, UTAH

Logan – H. Lester Bair, 84, Cache Valley church and civic leader, died Monday (18 Feb 1957) at Layton of a heart ailment.

Mr. Bair was born at Richmond, Sept. 29, 1872, to Hyrum and Mary Van Orden Bair. He served a mission to the Southern States in 1894; two short term missions to the Northwestern and Southern States; was bishop of Cove Ward, 1917-31; active in Seventies and High Priest Quorum work; past superintendent of Sunday school. A farmer and civil service worker, Mr. Bair married Harriett A. Skidmore in 1897 at the Logan LDS Temple. She died in 1950.

Surviving are four sons, Marion L., John S., Salt Lake City; Melvin D., H. Wendell, Layton; one daughter, Mrs. Warren Ashton, Malad; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Milton, Burley, Idaho; J. Francis Bair, Trenton, Cache County; three sisters, Mrs. William Sorensen, Heyburn, Idaho; Mrs. Ray Rich, Meridian, Idaho; Mrs. Delbert Kirby, Boise, Idaho.

Funeral services are being held Thursday at noon in the Logan Sixth ward chapel. Friends may call at the Nelson Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday after 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Richmond cemetery.
