George Merlin Ward

MALAD — George Merlin Ward, 87, of Malad, died Friday in the Oneida County Hospital.
He was born July 7, 1900, at Woodruff, Idaho, the son of Jesse Nicholas and Julia Ann Moon Ward.
He married Viola Thomas May 28, 1924 at Salt Lake City.
He was a lifelong resident of the Malad area, and educated in Malad schools. He was a rancher, sheepherder and farmer, retiring in 1965.
He was an active member of the Malad LDS First Ward Church.
He is survived by his wife, Malad; five daughters, Mrs. Rene (Melba) Deschamps, Mrs. Cleland (Neva Viola) Jones and Mrs. George (Judy Ann) Jones, all of Malad; Mrs. Boyd (Betty Jean) Van-Horn, American Falls, and Mrs. Vaun (Lois) Davis, Ogden, Utah; 21 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Ida Barnum, Malad. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Jess, Elmer, John and Eldon; and one sister, LaVern.
Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday at the Malad First Ward and St. John Chapel in Malad, with Bishop Sheldon Jensen conducting. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
