Gary Linn Romel

Preston, Idaho…Gary Linn Romel, 61, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017, following a recent illness and heart attack. Gary was born on August 16, 1955, in Sacramento, California, son of Joseph and Bertha Romel. He was raised in California and Utah and was a graduate of South High School in Salt Lake City. Gary married Dianne Lynne Schoneman on November 27, 1976, in Sandy, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

Gary worked in construction until her earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics at the University of Utah in 1987. Then they moved to Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, to take teaching positions for Marsh Valley School District. Gary taught secondary mathematics there until he retired in 2013. He was well known for his sense of humor, kindness and willingness to help students. Gary and Dianne recently moved to Preston, Idaho, to be closer to family.

Gary is survived by his wife, Dianne and his two children; Gary Linn Romel II, of Monterey, California, and Kimberly Ann Sorensen (Robert) of Smithfield, Utah. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Conner and Zackary Sorensen. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his daughter, Jennifer Lynne.

Gary was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints his entire life. He served a mission in Saint Louis, Missouri and held many positions in his wards. No one was a “stranger” to Gary. He was very social, well liked and will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017, at 1:00 PM, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 437 West Spring Street, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. A Viewing will be held in the LDS Church on Sunday evening from 7:00 – 8:00 PM and also from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM on Monday, prior to the services. Burial will follow at the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery.
