Gary Hugh Evans, 79, of Visalia, CA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 in Fresno, CA. Gary was born in Sacaton, Arizona, to Myrthus and Mae Evans. He had 4 siblings, Kathleen, Dean, Robert and John.

Gary met and shortly after married his sweet heart Marena Grigsby of Lexington, Kentucky, on March 24, 1963. Together they have five children: Gary, David, Rachael, Chris, and Leah. They also have 21 beautiful grandchildren.

Gary attended Riverside Poly High School. Upon graduating he joined the United States Marine Corp. He served six months active duty and 7 1/2 years of active reserve. When Gary was 19, he served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mexico City, Mexico.

Gary attended Brigham Young University where he received a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. He then went on to University of Kentucky Law School where he earned his Juris Doctor Degree. Gary passed the California State Bar Exam after which he moved his family to Visalia where he worked for the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office as a prosecuting attorney for 29 years. Gary retired in 2001.

Gary was a very kind, very loving father, husband, and friend. He loved his family more than anything. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and he loved serving others. In 2008, Gary and his wife, Marena, served a 12 month mission for the LDS Church at the Salt Lake City Church Family History Center. There they both learned to love genealogy.

Gary loved talking with people all over the world on his ham radios. He also loved playing golf, reading books, backpacking, taking long drives, but mostly he loved spending time with his family.

Services will be held on Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 11:00 am, 4000 W Caldwell Ave, Visalia, CA 93277.
