Gary Artell Kofoed

Gary Artell Kofoed (Punkin’) passed away July 24, 2015, at the age of 66 at home in Bancroft, ID while being attended to by his loving wife Karen Kofoed. Gary was born on July 12, 1949, in Pocatello to Artell and Maxine Kofoed of Lava Hot Springs, ID. Gary attended school with his sister Paula Kofoed Lemich in Lava and later graduating from Marsh Valley H.S. in Arimo, ID. Immediately after graduating, he entered into employment with the Union Pacific Railroad in Pocatello, ID. He started as a “Brakeman” and later earned his “Conductor’s” license. In 2002 Gary retired after 35 years of service. To say that Gary was an avid outdoorsman is an understatement. He enjoyed many activities such as hunting, fishing, horses, ATVs, snowmobiling, and camping. At an early age, he became interested in guns and later became very adept at gunsmithing and reloading. He was well known for his ability to locate wildlife and was able to bag some very nice deer and elk. He came to really love the sport of fishing for steelhead trout. He enjoyed the challenge in landing the fish as well as the camaraderie of the friends he often went with. Gary is preceded in death by his parents Artell and Maxine Kofoed, sister Paula Kofoed Lemich (Emil), and daughter Gina Marie Kofoed. He is survived by his wife Karen Kofoed, daughter Sheri Kofoed (Mariann), daughter Kim Kofoed Madsen, son Tommy Kofoed (Shasta), grandson Cody Madsen (Deanna), and two great grandkids. Per Gary’s wishes, he will be cremated with an informal gathering of Family and friends to follow at a later date. The Family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Portneuf Medical Center and Portneuf Cancer Center along with the kind people of Hospice for all they did for Gary.
