Downey…………..Fred James Hadley, 96, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter, with his loving family surrounding him on Wednesday February 11, 2009. He had been diagnosed with bone cancer on Monday. He was born December 15, 1912 in Swan Lake, Idaho, a son of Rich and Lillian Fisher Hadley and was the step son of Ercil Morrison Hadley. He was raised in Swan Lake and worked on the family farm, spending many summers in Cottonwwod Canyon tending the sheep. He met Sybil Salvesen and made her his wife FEbruary 3, 1934. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary with an open house and family dinner in Downey. To this marriage they added 2 children, Dennis Hadley (deceased) and wife Joy and Diane Mikesell and husband Bill. They have 10 grandchildren; Curtiss (deceased), Garth, Andrea, Audrey and DaNae (Hadley) and Trisha, Tyler, Trent and Troy (Mikesell), 28 great grandchildren with one more on the way and three great great grandchildren with another on the way. They have lived in Downey for the majority of their lives. Fred has owned a dairy farm, worked as an auto mechanic, and worked for the Idaho State Highway Dept. He was very active in the Bannock Co. Fair and 4-H program, serving on the Fair Board. This past August, during the South Bannock Fair Week, Sybil and Fred were the Grand Marshals for the Parade. He also served on the Bannock Co. Soil Conservation Board. He was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in the Bishopric, was High Priest Group Leader, teacher and a very faithful Home Teacher. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Sybil; daughter; Diane, son in law Bill; daughter in law; Joy, 9 grandchildren, and all the great and great great grandchildren. sisters in law; Lola Salvesen of Downey, Camille Hadley of Spanish fork, Utah, Theda Hadley of Moses Lake, WA. and brother in law; Earl Petersen of Tremoton, Utah, He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Dennis, grandson, Curtiss
also, eleven brothers and sisters, George, Helen, Minnie, Theo, Belle, Agnes, Ocie, Gladys, Rex and Warren, step brother, Dale, step sister,Margaret, and many other dear and precious friends and family. Funeral services will be held on monday February 16, 2009 at 12 noon in the Downey LDS Ward Chapel, Bishop Ronald Wakley, officiating. Friends may visit with the Haldey family on Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at the Downey Church and on Monday prior to services from 10:30-11:30 am Burial will follow in the Downey City Cemetery.
