Francis Dee Lyman Simons

Francis Dee Lyman Simons, 93, of McCammon and Logan, Utah passed away on February 22, 2016 in Logan, Utah due to conditions incident to age. Francis was born in Chesterfield, Idaho, to Flueitt and Inez Waddell Simons. The family lived in Chesterfield, but moved to McCammon when he was 4. The family moved again at the passing of his father. Francis grew up in Cache Valley, where he was especially close to his brother, Jay. He attended schools in Logan and Richmond and graduated from North Cache High School. He was a natural athlete who especially enjoyed playing tennis and basketball. Francis married Elaine Fallis on December 12, 1942 in Preston, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Logan Latter-day Saint Temple. Elaine passed away on October 13, 2005. Francis served in World War II in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre. After the war he was employed at Idaho Portland Cement (later Ash Grove Cement) in Inkom, Idaho. He and Elaine moved to McCammon where they lived and raised their six children. Francis enjoyed his work and he was very good at fixing anything. He was persistent and analytic in troubleshooting any mechanical problem and he was constantly trying to add to his skills. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he served in many capacities. He had so many dear friends in that community and the surrounding towns. After retiring from Ash Grove, Francis and Elaine enjoyed traveling together, visiting their families and “having adventures.” They also served as church service missionaries in their area. Francis looked back on this as the best time of his life. He grew nice gardens and raised fruit. He enjoyed fishing and loved going whenever he could. He was an officer in the local VFW Chapter and served on the cemetery board. He and Elaine enjoyed their grandchildren and loved them very much. After the passing of Elaine, Francis stayed in McCammon and was served well by the people there. He eventually moved to Logan, Utah where he had many good friends and was engaged in making people feel welcome. He was a favorite for his great attitude and smile. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, a beloved grandson, and his brothers: Wallace, Floyd, Edwin and Jerold; and his sister, Jessie. He was also preceded by many beloved brothers and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his brothers, Jay Simons (Provo) and Glen (Kathy) Romriell (Inkom), his sister, Inez Fluetta (husband) Pete Peterson. He is also survived by his children: Dennis (Elaine) Simons (Ramah, NM), Floyd (Marilyn) Simons (McCammon), Jill Boccia (Clearfield, UT), Rob (Laura) Simons, (Alpine, UT), Rory Simons and Cathy Sher (Lava Hot Springs), and Tanya (Randall) Bagley (Providence, UT). He especially loved his many grandchildren, his numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was grateful for many wonderful nieces and nephews and their children.
