Forrest Winthrop Cagle

Downey…..Forrest Winthrop Cagle, 86, longtime Downey area resident, passed away on April 22, 2012 as the result of injuries sustained in a fall. He was born April 6, 1926 in Knoxville. Tennessee, a son of Forrest Andrew Jackson and Amanda Jane Helms Cagle. Forrest grew up and was educated in Snowville, Utah, where his father had purchased an Auto Repair Garage. He worked there for a time and then met Ila Rae Kent. They were married August 16, 1944 in Ogden, Utah. Shortly after, in November of 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was assigned to the Sea Bees. He worked on the airfields in Okinowa, repairing the landing strips and on heavy equipment. Due to Forrest’s unique skills, his service was extended 6 months. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned home. He and Ila Rae settled in Kelton (Snowville) Utah, where they resided for several years. While there he worked on a farm and later moved to a farm in Stone, Idaho. In 1955, he and his family moved to Downey, where he began a well-drilling business, later to known as Cagle & Son Well- Drilling. Forrest enjoyed the outdoors, hunting , fishing and spending time with his family on picnics. His greatest enjoyment came with his work as a well- driller, and he took great pride in the work he did. His wife, Ila Rae passed away in November 5, 1995. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Forrest is survived by his children: Cherolynn (Jene Jr. ) Day of Downey; Linda (Jr.) Leissring of Bancroft, Idaho; Ronald “Ron” Cagle of Downey. 8 grandchildren 28 great grandchildren and 6 grt. grt. grandchildren. 2 Brothers; Henry (Betty) Cagle of Lovelock, NV.; Shirley Ray (Julia) Cagle of American Falls, ID. Sisters; Laura (Chuck, dec.) Sloan of Fallon, NV.; Clara (Leonard, dec.) Wren of Rupert, ID. Nellie Schofield of Battle Mountain, NV. Kathleen (Darrell) Wellard of CA.; Valorie (Carey) Wyall of SLC, Utah Jennie (Don) Merklie of Jerome, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Ila Rae; a brother and a sister. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the Virginia LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, April 27 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home, 570 N. Meadowview Dr. and again from 11:30-12:45 p.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the service. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home.
