Everett Clark Bernhisel

DENTIST, FORMER MALAD RESIDENT TAKES LIFE BY JUMPING IN RIVER

AMERICAN FALLS, March 10, 1931 Plunging into the swirling waters of Snake River below American Falls dam, Everett Clark Bernhisel, 42, local dentist ended his life here early today. Despondency caused by financial troubles is believed to have prompted the act.

Dr. Bernhisel’s body was located by Sheriff Buck Davis at 9 a.m., after the gates had been closed and water released from the coffer dam. A search which began shortly after midnight was ended shortly after 7 o’clock when Bernhisel’s clothes were found on the river bank about 150 feet below the large dam. It is believed Bernhisel jumped into the river where waters issuing from the dam form a giant whirlpool.
