Eugene E. Day

IDAHO FALLS – Eugene E. Day, 83, of Downey, passed away on May 23, 2004 in Idaho Falls. He was born July 7, 1920 in Salt lake City, Utah, a son of Norman L. and Anna Salvesen Day. He grew up and was educated in Downey. On May 21, 1942, Eugene married Beatrice Jane Tillitson in Salt Lake City. He served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in Tehran, Iran. Following the war, he was employed as an electrician and later worked as a custodian and X-ray technician for the Downey Hospital for 37 years.

He loved doing genealogy work and enjoyed photography and raising flowers. He was a devoted worker at the South Bannock County Fair, as well as at the Downey Senior Citizens Center. Gene had a love for people and was always willing to lend a hand of friendship to them. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beatrice, of Downey; one son, Jene, Jr. (Cherolynn) Day of Downey, a daughter-in-law, Dixie Day, (married to the late Jack Day) of Downey; six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Mallot of Downey; one brother Lynn (LouDonna) Day of Downey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one son.

Funeral services will be May 26, 2004 in the Downey LDS Ward Chapel. Burial will follow in the Cambridge Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Downey American Legion Post #21.
