Eugene Bott

Eugene Bott, son of George Henry Bott and Nancy Bankhead Bott Forster, died of causes incident to age at the home of his daughter, Patricia Hirschi, December 22, 2006 in Kaysville, Utah. His death released him from 88 years of pain and discomfort. He was a shining example of loving service to his Father in heaven and his family. They mourn his passing but rejoice in his freedom of movement and reunion with loved ones.

He was born September 17, 1911 in Brigham City, Utah. He lived all of his life in Box Elder County where he attended Box Elder high School and Utah State University. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northwestern States.

On November 4, 1938 he married Norma Tingey in the Logan Temple and together they made a happy home for eight children who learned the value of work and service from his example. He was a farmer at heart, but also worked ten years driving a laundry truck, another 17 years as a custodian for the Box Elder School District, and for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Eugene had a beautiful tenor voice which he put to good use in the Box Elder Stake Choir, the Bee Tee Glee Club, and ward choir. In addition he sang the part of Zimora for several years in the Perry Theater Performance of “Mary.” He sang at many funerals, weddings and other occasions with his sister, Elsie, and set a tradition of caroling on Christmas Eve with his sister, and then with his own family.

He was a lifetime member of the sons of Utah Pioneers and the Delta Phi Fraternity. He served on the Perry City Town Board and gave many hours of civic service. Eugene also spent many hours of devoted service in church callings, Stake Mission President, two stake missions, nine years as a Tabernacle missionary with his wife, counselor to the Bishop of the Perry Ward, Seventy’s President, MIA President, High Priests Group Leader, and served an assignment in the Ogden Temple for nine years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Norma; and eight children, Patricia (Max) Hirschi of Kaysville; Heber (Bonnie) Bott, Jim (Lola) Bott of Malad, Idaho; Margaret (Jim) Coleman, Kathleen (Frank) Martin of St. George; Dorothy (Parris) Neal of Monument, Colorado; Elizabeth Price of River Heights; and Richard (Julie) Bott of Tremonton; 40 grandchildren and 72 great-grandchildren.

He is also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Heber Bott and Melvin (Audrey) Bott; sisters, Mary (Charles) Burt, and Elsie (Lamont) Yates; a grandson, Daniel Price; son-in-law Russell Price and daughter-in-laws Judy and Debbie Bott.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 28 at 1:00 p.m. in the Brigham City 4th Ward. A viewing will be at the church from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
