PRESTON, Ida.-Erma Catherine Nielson Austin passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at Preston Medical Center, Preston, Idaho.
She was born November 6, 1907 in Cleveland, Idaho to Edgar and Catherine Bevins Nielson. She grew up in Cleveland, Idaho and attended high school at Thatcher, Idaho.
She married Orvil Butler Austin November 11, 1925 in the Logan, Utah temple. They lived in Cleveland, Idaho for a few years, and then moved to Downey, Idaho where they lived for 61 years. Due to declining health the last few months Erma moved into the Heritage Home in Preston, Idaho, and just recently moved into the Franklin County Nursing Home.
She was an active member in the LDS church, serving as nursery leader for many years, visiting teacher, magazine representative for 20 years, and many other positions.
She enjoyed crocheting, tatting and embroidery work. Many of her family and friends have been recipients of her beautiful hand work. She also had a great love for the outdoors and especially fishing. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two sons and four daughters, Glen and (Gwen) Austin, Blackfoot, Idaho, LeOra and (Merl) Bloxham, Franklin, Idaho, Kathryn and (Ray) Hurst, Roy, Utah, Dennie and (Penny) Austin, Granite Falls, Washington, Athel and (Loren) Mounteer, Paradise, Utah, Carol Ann and (Brent) Conlin, Amarillo, Texas; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers and two sisters, Lee (Arta) Nielson, Ririe, Idaho, Verl Nielson, St. George, Utah, Donna Moser, Preston, Idaho, Ora Rasmussen, Preston, Idaho, Homer and (Ane Ora) Nielson, Preston, Idaho, and Merlin and (Beth) Nielson, Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, January 7, 2000 at the Downey, Idaho LDS Chapel, with Bishop Grant Johnson conducting. Friends may call at the church Friday morning from 10 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. Burial will be in the Downey Cemetery. Arrangements are by Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home, Arimo.
