Elva Hill Caldwell


Elva Hill Caldwell, 94, died Friday April 4, 1997 at a Tooele nursing home.
She was born May 2, 1902, in Samaria, Idaho to Frederick and Margaret Jane Powell Hill. She moved to Tooele, Utah October 11, 1913. Married Brant Caldwell May 24, 1919 at Farmington, Utah. Their only child, Elman Brant Caldwell was killed in World War 11 shortly after D-day in France.
Elva was a member of the LDS Church and was president of the Primary during the 1920’s and 30’s. She and her husband operated the Caldwell Drug in Tooele during World War 11 and the years following. Elva spent the winters in Arizona and was a very avid golfer, winning ladies championships in Tooele and the Salt Lake Country Club.
Surviving include her brother, Keith B. Hill of Magna and brother-in-law, Floyd D. Gowans of Orem; as well as many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband and son; sisters Rachel Hill Gowans, and brothers, Daniel H. Hill and Fredrick R. Hill.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 8 at 11 a.m. at the Tate Mortuary Chapel in Tooele. Friends may call one hour prior to services.
