Elmon Earl Apgood dies at age 74

BLACKFOOT – Elmon Earl Apgood, 74, Weeding Lane, north of Blackfoot died Thursday evening (25 July 1982) at the Bingham Memorial Hospital after suffering an apparent stroke.

He was born June 28, 1908, in Malad to Earl and Dora Blanche Maxwell Apgood, and attended schools in the area. He married Susanna Mae Price Nov. 22, 1927 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He worked in the retail grocery industry for the Safeway Co. for more than 25 years, living in Tremonton, Logan, Ogden, Brigham City, Heber, and Magna, Utah. He came to Blackfoot as manager in 1948. Soon thereafter, he left the grocery business to begin farming fulltime, and the last 32 years of his life were spent farming in the Wapello area. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and former member of the Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. He was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time.

He is survived by his wife, Wapello; a son E. Lyle Apgood, Lyman, Wyo.; a daughter Mrs. Byron E. (Ila Mae) Mineer, Fairfield, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers Elton H. Apgood, Shelley and Theoress Apgood, San Jose, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Ila) Allen, Brea, Calif. A sister, Gertrude Mifflin preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Wapello First Ward LDS chapel with Bishop Wayne T. Brower conducting. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
