Elmer Walter Illum

Malad – Elmer Walter Illum, 71, lifetime resident of the Malad area, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1992, in Logan, Utah.
He was born July 1, 1921, at the family home in St. John, a son of Sigvald Fredrick and Eleanor Jane Nellie Beard Illum. He grew up and was educated in St. John, and was a lifetime resident there, where he farmed. He married Verlend Atkinson Oct. 16, 1943, and they were later divorced; he married Wilda LReece Jones Feb. 1, 1958, in Bingham Canyon, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple Nov 1, 1974.
He had been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was serving as high priest quorum secretary, and also as a home teacher. He had been elders’ quorum counselor, Sunday School counselor and president. He enjoyed helping with parade floats and girls’ camp, was a senior citizen board member, and St. John Irrigation board member. He enjoyed gardening, and had taken a master gardening course. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of, Malad; four sons, three daughters and spouses, Kenneth Walter and Gail Illum, Syracuse, Utah, Douglas Brent and Maureen Illum, Idaho Falls, Lonnie Raymond and Phyllis Kay, Randolph, Utah; Danny Lorum Kay, Sherman Oaks, Calif., Mrs. Ted (Mollie Ann) Barnes, Bancroft, Mrs. Jim (Wilda Karaleen) Parkinson, Collinston, Utah; and Mrs. Tom (Patricia Jo) Willis, Burley; 24 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Devere Illum of Malad; and two sisters, Beth I. Nelson, Burns, Ore., and Nellie I. Nelson, Ogden, Utah.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at noon in the St. John LDS Chapel, Bishop Rex Daniels officiating. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad, on Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday prior to services. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery.
