Funeral Rites Friday For Mrs. Bennett

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Laws Bennett, 83, who died late Tuesday (1 June 1948) at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lyman A. Wight, of a short illness will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Second ward chapel; Bishop Golden Willie will have charge of the services. The Malad Mortuary will direct burial in the Malad cemetery.

Mrs. Bennett was born Dec. 2, 1864, in Gurney Ville, Durham County, England, a daughter of Joseph and Margaret Dodds Laws. She was married there in 1881 to John G. Bennett and they came to America two years later as converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They lived in Utah a short time, then in Albion, Idaho, before settling permanently in Malad, where Mr. Bennett was a contractor and builder. He died about 15 years ago.

Mrs. Bennett served as a teacher in the Second ward L D S Relief society 42 years and was president 16 years. She also worked in the Second Ward primary and served as president for several years.

Surviving are nine sons and daughters, John G. Bennett, San Francisco; Lester B. Bennett, Long Beach, California; Glenn Bennett, Hawthorne, California; Leonard and Joseph Bennett and Mrs. James Kilfoyle, Ogden, Utah; Nephi Bennett and Mrs. Wight, Malad, and Mrs. J. C. Thomas, Tremonton, Utah; 31 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
