Eleanor Leone Williams Bezold

Eleanor Leone Williams Bezold passed away in Twin Falls, Idaho, June 22, 2004, of a sudden acute illness.

She was born October 6, 1915 in Samaria, Idaho, the third child and oldest daughter of Maximillian and Eleanor Thomas Williams. Life in Samaria was a constant stream of chores that needed to be done, but Eleanor was always protected from the outside chores by her four brothers: Daniel, Jerry, Alvin and Floyd. She and her sisters, Ruth and Betty Joy, usually shared the household duties assisting their “ma” each day. Because Eleanor was the oldest of the daughters, she was the envy of the other children, especially the girls, with her numerous boyfriends and exciting grownup life.

Eleanor traveled by train from Salt Lake City to Boston in 1945 to marry her sweetheart Kenneth Bezold. They had met as teachers in the Twin Falls School District, but war time had taken him to the Navy. To their marriage came two daughters: Eleanor Joy (Ed) Nielsen and Kenna Lee (Glenn) Arrington. From those marriages came five grandchildren: Michael (Yazmine) Arrington, Karina Nielsen (Aaron) Christensen, Melea Arrington, Laura Arrington and Alex Arrington, and a single great-grandchild has been born: Eleanor Lynn Christensen. Her immediate and extended family is Eleanor’s pride and joy. She loved everything they did or said.

Eleanor received a teaching certificate at the Albion Normal College and a Bachelor’s Degree from Idaho State University. With these credentials, she taught for about twenty years at Washington and Lincoln Elementary Schools in Twin Falls. During her teaching career and for many years following retirement, she was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a teacher’s sorority.

Her loving care was well known as a healer of other people’s dying house plants. Her sunroom was always full of leafed friends, getting the best of healing care. Eleanor enjoyed playing ‘nickel bridge’ with a regular group of friends, every other week for over 40 years. She loved reading good books and when visitors dropped by her home, she was most often found sitting in her chair working on another novel.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, all her brothers and her sister, Betty Joy Launer. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Surrage, her husband of 59 years, both her daughters, all her great and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were on June 26, 2004 at the 3rd Ward LDS Church in Twin Falls. Interment was in the Twin Falls Cemetery.
