Eldon Smith

Eldon Smith, 78, passed away December 21, 2016 from cancer, surrounded by his family at his home in Kimberly, Idaho. Eldon was the third child born to Leon Smith and Ethel John on October 21, 1938 in Antioch, California. His older brothers, Leon and Bobbie, often helped him get into mischief. His sister, Sharon, followed soon after and later his younger brother, Dale. Eldon enjoyed a marvelous childhood riding around the neighborhood on his Schwinn bike (that he paid for), daring fate by swinging over the river on a rope, and in general running free. In his own words, “My childhood crowning accomplishment was to build a tree house in one of the trees that hung over the river.” Part of Eldon’s DNA was work. He began at the age of 8 helping his older brothers with a paper route and by age 10 he had his own route, delivering to 105 customers. After graduating high school in California he bought a 1952 Chevy convertible, because as he said, “I need something to get the girls.” He drove it to Malad, Idaho to visit family and met the girl of his dreams, Eldena Harrison. A few basketball games, dances and sodas later they were married in the Logan, Utah Temple July 25 1958 for time and all eternity. Later Eldon attended and graduated with a B.S. from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in Dairy Husbandry. Throughout the years, Eldon drove milk trucks, milked cows, kept bees, drove school buses and supervised dairies as part of his work career. In 2006 he retired from Land O’ Lakes in Tulare, California as an Operations Supervisor/Field Man after spending 48 years in the dairy industry. Over the 58 years of marriage Eldon and Eldena had six children, Lucinda (Steven Currier), Elizabeth (Raybon Johnson), Jennifer (Mark Riches), Thomas (Cindi Barfuss), Rebecca (Sean Zaugg), David (Mindy Rands), 25 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Eldon was actively involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many positions of service to others. Seeking out his ancestors was of great importance and occupied much of Eldon’s time, thoughts and conversation. We know that he is having a joyous reunion with all his loved ones. Family and friends are welcome to attend the viewing from 10-11:45am on December 29, 2016 at the LDS church located at 3857 N 3500 E, Kimberly, Idaho with funeral services to follow at 12pm. Interment to follow later that day at the Malad, Idaho Cemetery.
