Effie Polatis Clark

BLACKFOOT – Effie M. Polatis Clark, 90, of Blackfoot, died April 15,1992, at Bingham County Nursing Home.

She was born April 13, 1902, at Beaver, Utah, to Joseph William and Alice May Tyler Tanner. She graduated from high school in Brigham City, Utah. She graduated from Albion Normal School with a teaching certificate in 1922 and from Idaho State University in 1963. She taught school before her marriage.

On Nov. 27, 1925, she married Christian Julius Polatis in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He died in 1958. She married George H. Clark July 21, 1964. He died Jan. 11, 1979. She began teaching in 1957 in elementary school in the Snake River School District, where she taught for many years.

She was an active member of the LDS Church and served as Primary president and initiated the church libraries in the Blackfoot area. She worked as a volunteer Pink Lady at Bingham Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home, and was a member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed group singing, tatting and flower gardening.

Survivors include her children, Lowell Polatis, Daniel Polatis, Richard Polatis and Mrs. Verl (Marie) Furniss, all of Blackfoot, Dean Polatis of Salt Lake City, foseph Polatis of North Platt, Neb., and Mrs. Henry (Carol) Miles )of Orem, Utah; nine stepchildren, Howard Clark, Edith Christensen and Vera Orem, all of Blackfoot, Hulda Nichols of Ogden, Utah,
Leah Nichols of Ashton, Fern McClellen of Idaho Falls, Daveen Dye of Firth, Phyllis Empey Poulsen of Tyhee, and Ora Hardy of Pocatello; 47 grandchildren; 93 great-grandchilden; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, two brothers, seven sisters, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Thomas LDS 4th Ward with Bishop James Turpin officiating. The family will meet with friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hill-Sandberg Funeral Home in Blackfoot and Saturday for one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
