Edith H. Atkinson, 70, died Sat. at Hospital

Edith Hughes Atkinson age 70 of Samaria died Saturday (19 March 1977) at the Oneida County Hospital.

She was born May 9, 1906 at Malad to Gomer and Mary Edith Bolingbroke Hughes. She married Andrew W. Atkinson Sept. 1, 1926 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He died July 19, 1961.

She attended Malad schools and was an active member of the LDS Church. She served as Relief Society secretary 27 years in the Samaria Ward, was MIA secretary and a primary teacher. She also was a PTA secretary and was in charge of school lunches at Samaria.

Survivors include a son and two daughters, A. Marlo Atkinson of Pocatello, and Mrs. Ellerene Udy and Mrs. Edith Nadine Lamb, both of Plymouth, Utah; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters, Gomer Ellis Hughes and Mrs. Phyllis Fillion, both of Magna, Utah and Mrs. Mary Jean Hess of Plymouth, Utah.

Funeral Service

Services were held Wednesday, March 23 at the Samaria LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Melvin Joe Davis officiating.

Family prayer was offered at the Benson Funeral Home by Ben W. Call.

Delivering the obituary was Shiela Brown. Speakers were Bishop John Roderick and Bishop Robert Waldron.

Ronley Jones offered the benediction.

Vocal selections were rendered by the Belmont Choir and Carol Daniels. Tom Hoesch played prelude and postlude music. Accompanists were Barbara Capener and Patsy Bybee.

Concluding rites were at Samaria Cemetery where Ellis Hughes offered the dedicatory prayer. Overseeing flowers was the Samaria Ward Relief Society, Elaine Mills, president.

Casket bearers were Lynn Ray Udy, Paul Udy, Jerry Udy, Kenneth Lamb, Ronald Lamb and Robert D. Dorius.
