HEYBURN, ID – Edith Bailey Handy, 93, Heyburn, died August 29, 2001 in Rupert, ID, of causes incident to age after a full life.
Edith was born June 6, 1908 at Samaria, Idaho to Parley Hawkins Bailey and Mary Jane Roderick. She was the second of 1 1 children born to the union.
She married Ernest W. Handy April 6, 1928, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on July 6, 1928. Ernest preceded her in death in 1997.
Edith lived in Samaria and Arbon Valley in her early years, and started school in Arbon Valley. In 1923 her family relocated to the Rupert area. In 1 925 they moved to a farm in the Heyburn area where Edith graduated from Heyburn High School in 1927. It was there she met Ernest with whom she lived a happy, devoted life. They were lifelong Heyburn residents except for two years extension in Three Creek, Nevada.
In her later years. Edith did much genealogy work and was a member of the Burley Family History Center. She participated in the Heyburn Alumni Association with many lifetime friends. She and Ernest traveled through many states after retirement and maintained many friendships.
Edith is survived by her three sons and a daughter: LaDell (Carol) Handy of Glenns Ferry: Arlene (Glen) Badger of Bountiful; Gerald (Lois) Handy of West Jordan; and Duane (Beverly) Handy of Heyburn; six brothers and sisters: Seth (Madge) Bailey, Ray (Erma) Bailey, Norman (Leeta) Bailey, Keith (Gale) Bailey Mary Wilcox, and Wanda (Louis) Stimpson. There are also 17 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 1 1 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001 at the Paul 3rd & 4th Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 300 So. 500 W. Heyburn, with Bishop La-Dell Handy officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Heyburn. Friends may call at the Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel, 321 E. Main, Monday, Sept. 3, 2001 from 6-8 p.m. and 10-10:45 a.m. at the church before the service. Services are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel.
