Doyle LaGrand Swenson

Doyle was born December 20, 1935 in Malad, Idaho to Royal and Tressa Swenson. He passed away September 27, 2015 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Doyle was raised in Malad, Idaho and on his family farm in Arbon Valley where he learned the value of an honest day’s work. He carried that with him throughout his life along with his honesty and integrity which he passed on to his children. Doyle graduated from Malad High School in 1954 then attended Idaho State University. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Waldron, June 3, 1955 in the Logan Temple. They made their home in Bountiful where they raised their five children and made many lifetime friends.
Doyle owned his own delivery service for Lowe’s Pharmacy for 10 years. He then worked for Wonder Bread & Hostess until his retirement 26 years later.
Doyle was a member of the LDS church where he served as a beloved scout leader whose former scouts still share “Doyle” stories. He also served as Elders Quorum President, Stake Young Men’s counselor, as a counselor in two Bishoprics, ward clerk in a YSA ward and in many other capacities. He served willingly and faithfully in each of his callings.
Together Doyle and Ruth served in the Australia Sydney South Mission, as Temple Square missionaries, and as service missionaries in Mexico.
Doyle had a great love for his family. He enjoyed camping, boating, biking, golfing, bowling and being a spectator at his grandchildren’s activities. He leaves behind a wealth of family memories and a legacy of love for his posterity. Doyle also loved Ruth’s family who he shared many happy times with.
Doyle is survived by his wife, Ruth; children – Shondell (Brad) Knowlton, Tammy (Blake) Wade, Randy (Kayanne) Swenson, Kevin Swenson, Tracy (Doug) Murray; 19 adoring grandchildren and their spouses and 30 great grandchildren. He made each one a special part of his life. He is also survived by his siblings, Janiel, Twila & Jay (Ann). He is preceded in death by his brother, Dean.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation to TenderNest Care Center, Billings, MT for their exceptional love and compassion shown to Doyle. It was apparent he was adored by his caregivers.
A viewing will be held Thursday, October 1 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main in Bountiful, and at 9:45 – 10:45 a.m prior to services on Friday October 2 at 11 a.m. at the Bountiful 25th Ward Chapel, 600 East 1500 South, Bountiful. Interment will follow at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
