Donald J Allen


Donald J Allen, 78 passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 7, 2018. Don was born January 4, 1940 in American falls, Idaho to Ruth and Ellis Allen. He was raised and educated in Rockland, Idaho. He was a member of the Rockland High School football and basketball teams. Don graduated from Idaho State University Tech College.

Don married his high school sweetheart Mary Loraine Herrick on July 17, 1960 in Rockland, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls temple on July 17, 2010. Don and Mary raised their family in Brigham City, Utah where they had three children; Dawn Marie, Kim Jude, and Charles Dirk.

Don joined the US Air Force in 1963, he served in Texas, Florida and England as an aircraft mechanic for 8 years. He worked at Hill Airforce Base for 36 years where he retired as manager of flight test for the F16’s, C130’s and F4’s.

Don was a lifetime member of the Box Elder Search and Rescue. President and cofounder of the Golden Spike Racing Association. Vice president of the World Chariot Racing Association.

Don spent the last 24 years in Malad, Idaho where he enjoyed living in the cabin he built with his two sons and many friends.

Don served in several positions in the LDS church.

Don was loved by all for his quick wit, and willingness to help

Don is survived by his loving wife Mary Allen, sons Kim (Kris) Allen, Dirk (Pam Pace) Allen, son-in-law David Layton, sister Shirley Kelley, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was proceded in death by his daughter Dawn Marie Allen-Layton, parents Ruth and Ellis Allen, mother and father-in-law Frances and Fred Wegner.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 14 at 1:00 p.m. in the Malad LDS 7th Ward Chapel, 400 N. 200 W.  Friends may visit with the family at the Horsley Funeral Home on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. -12:30p.m. prior to the service.  Burial will follow in the Rockland Cemetery.  Condolences and memories may be shared with the family by visiting
