Dennis J. Phillips

October 16, 1951 – December 13, 2019

Downey, Idaho…Dennis J. Phillips, 68, longtime resident of Downey, passed away of a short illness on December 13, 2019. Dennis was born to Elmer and Naomi Phillips in Downey. His whole life was spent living in Downey.

Dennis went to school in Downey and then went on to graduate from Marsh Valley High School. After high school, he was inducted into the Army. This was a very important time of his life. His time was spent stationed in Germany. After his time in the service, he returned to Downey.

There he met his wife of 45 years, Martha Lynn Hadley. They are the parents of four fabulous boys: Bryan (Bridgett) Vorwaller, of McCammon; Nick (Amy) Phillips, of Downey; Alex (Emily) Phillips, of Eden, Utah; and Ande (Jordan) Phillips, of Preston. They are the grandparents of the best 15 grandchildren.

Dennis has been the Mayor of Downey for the past 12 years. Prior to being Mayor, he served on the City Council. Dennis was the Commander of American Legion Post 21 for over 20 years. These years are of such importance to him.

Dennis is survived by his immediate family; one brother, Bill, of Downey; one sister, Sandy Hansen, of McCammon; and many loved nieces and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jake Foster; a sister-in-law JoAnn Phillips; and a brother-in-law, Doyle Hansen.

Military Rites will be held at the Cambridge Cemetery on December 22, at 4:00 p.m. A visitation will be held at the Downey LDS Church on December 22, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Legion Post 21, P.O. Box 77, Downey, Idaho 83234.
