Delmer H. Barfuss

Delmer H. Barfuss, 87,Husband of Clea Mae Barnes Barfuss, passed away suddenly at his home on January 25, 2010.
He was born at his family home on January 9, 1923, in East Virginia. His parents were John & Mary Bowman Barfuss. He spent his entire life in the Virginia/Downey area. After finishing high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On February 6, 1946, he married Clea Mae Barnes in the Idaho Falls Temple. They moved to California while he finished his enlistment. They then returned to Idaho to make their home.
Delmer worked for PFE for 32 years until his retirement in 1984. He also farmed in the Virginia area for many years. He spent many hours filling various positions in the LDS church, and with his wife, served in the Logan temple for 10 years. They served a mission in the Family History Center in Philadelphia, and also a Stake Family History mission. He enjoyed music and sang with local choirs and played guitar with the senior citizen band. His greatest joys in life were reading, traveling, going on cruises and spending time with his family.
Delmer was a friend to everyone, and never met a stranger. His family was the center of his life. He was a great father to his twelve children: Sheila (Steve) Barker, North Salt Lake, Utah, Sheldon (Rhonda) Barfuss, Downey, Pamela (Kevin) Koester, Lava Hot Springs, Brenda (Ken) Degn, Preston, Rodney (Bonnie) Barfuss, Lava Hot Springs, Blake (Terri) Barfuss, Downey, Noel (Rhonda) Barfuss, Clearfield, Utah, Kirk (Robyn) Barfuss, Draper, Utah, Lex (Mauri) Barfuss, Cedar Hills, Utah, Layne Barfuss, Saudi Arabia, Brent Barfuss, Pocatello, and Darin (Kathie) Barfuss, Hailey, Idaho. He is survived by his wife , Clea Mae, all twelve of his children, 29 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and one sister, Lorraine Povey. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Darold, Willis, Norval, and Voy and three sisters, Alta Mae, Vera, and Elaine. Also preceding him in death were two granddaughters, Bridgette Barfuss and Mattea Shae Barfuss.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the Downey LDS Church at noon, under the direction of Bishop Rex Nielsen, Mel Hansen officiating. A viewing will be held on Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Downey LDS Church and again on Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30. Burial will follow at the Downey City Cemetery with military rites accorded by Downey American legion Post #21 .Services are under the direction of Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home.
