Delmer “Bing” Byington

Delmer “Bing” Byington, age 87, left this earthly habitation Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at a local care center surrounded by his children.

He was born May 25, 1921 in Downey, Idaho, to Ernest Lorenzo Byington and Edith Christena Stones. He graduated from Downey High School and participated in several sports. He attended vocational trade school in Weiser, Idaho, learning carpentry. It was there he met the love of his life, Georgia Belle Wheeler. They were married December 1, 1943 in Salt Lake City. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, March 1946.

He served in the U. S. Army as a medic in the Italy Campaign. He received the Bronze Star for his brave and un-selfish actions.

He worked for Paul Roberts Industrial Supply in Twin Falls and Boise, Idaho and he owned Bing Fence Company in in Burley, Idaho.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he faithfully served in many leadership positions. He and Georgia served a mission to St. George, Utah and then stayed and managed the Temple apartments and served as ordinance workers in the St. George Temple.

Delmer’s community activities included city softball, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and VFW. He was on the Snake River Area Scout Council and helped many boys make the rank of Eagle as a scout master.

Delmer and Georgia were blessed with five children, Janet K (Stan) Hadley, Dennis Ray (Ursula), LaDell Vere (Bonnie), Linda Lou (Steven) Kennedy, Gary Lee (Kathy).

He is preceded in death by his wife Georgia, his parents, one sister and four brothers. He is survived by his five children. His sister Erma Meredith of Downey, brothers Farrell Byington of Lewiston, Idaho and Dale Byington of Montour, Idaho, twenty-four grand children and thirty-three great grand children with two more expected.
