Dean Lorenzo Williams

Dean Lorenzo Williams, 93, of Pocatello and former resident of Malad City, Idaho passed away at Portneuf Medical Center on December 18, 2014 with his loving family at his side. He was born July 28, 1921 in Malad to John H. and Eleanor Jones Williams. He grew up on the family farm and attended the Malad schools and graduated in 1940. He excelled in baseball as a pitcher. He also attended Snow College to play baseball. Dean farmed with his Dad until he was called to serve his country in World War II. During his service he was advanced to Staff Sergeant and was stationed in the Philippines and Japan. When he returned home he continued farming. He married Mary Lou Williams on December 28, 1948. They were blessed with four children: Dr. Dean Lamont Williams (Maralyn), Debra Ann Weber (Kim), Tom Williams (Janet), and Shauna Lou Williams. The family lived in St. John, west of Malad, until 1956 when they moved to Pocatello where he began his career in the sheet metal business. He coached Little League and Pony League baseball for the Pocatello Fire Department for many years. His two sons were on his team. Dean had farms in Malad Valley and the Tyhee area where he raised prize-winning cattle. Dean is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, four children and their spouses, twelve grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, Susan Garcia, five siblings (Dale, Farrel, Eleanor, Eddis, and Bonnie), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Thomas F. and Maude Thomas, Jeremy Hirschi (grandson-in-law), four siblings (Velma, Jack, Mary, and Dan). Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 23 at 12 noon in the Pocatello 26th Ward Chapel, 3444 Hawthorne. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Monday evening from 6:00-7:30 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the service.
