Dean Bennett

Dean Bennett, 68, Twin Falls, died Friday in Twin Falls of an illness. He was born March 22, 1918 in Malad where he was reared and attended school. Hew served in the army during WWII from 1941 to 1945.
He married Helen Chivers in Malad and she preceded him in death in January, 1971. He later married Grace Hanel in Twin Falls, November 3, 1973. He attended the Southern branch of University of Idaho and the Idaho State Police Academy. He joined Idaho State Police on August 5, 1947. He spent 17 years in Boise and also promoted to Sergeant in 1959. He was transferred to Twin Falls and promoted to Lieutenant and then to Captain in 1970. He returned to Boise in 1972 to be come Area Commander for Northern Idah. In 1975 he was Operations Officer for the Idaho State Police. He retired in 1977 after 30 years of service. He was the first man in the history of Idaho State Police to serve thirty Years.
He was a life member of the Elks Lodge and the LDS Church.
He was loved by his grandchildren and was a loving and caring father. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters Martha Mae Goulding of Ogden, Utah and Carol Harris of Smithfield, Oregon; two daughters Dixie Anderson and Pam Heath of Boise, Idaho; one step-daughter, Terry Carlson of Jerome, Idaho; and two step sons Dennis Hannel, Boise, Idaho; and Phil Hannel, Midland, Michigan. Nine grandchildren. In addition to his first wife he was preceded in death by one brother.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the white Mortuary Chapel with Bishop Vern Barnes officiating and the Twin Falls Lodge No. 1183 BPOE.
Services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Benson-Horsley Chapel in Malad with Elder Frank White conducting.
Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
Family suggests memorials be given to Magic Valley Regional Medical Center Physical Therapy Department in Twin Falls.
