David R. Atkinson

David Roderick Atkinson, 83, lifetime Malad-area resident, died at the Pioneer Care Center in Brigham City, Utah, of cancer on Wednesday, April 29, 1992.
He was born April 19, 1909, in Samaria, Idaho, a son of Alfred Henry and Hannah Elizabeth Waldron Atkinson. He was educated in Samaria.
He married Mary White on Jan. 30, 1935, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He worked as a farmer, and retired from Crowthers Brothers Mill. After he retired, he hired on with the Green Thumb Project, helping widows and widowers with any home project that was required. He enjoyed this work very much.
David was a member of the LDS Church, where he held the office of high priest. He was always busy serving in many capacities such as ward clerk, and in the Young Men’s organization. For many years he and his wife were the ward custodians for the Samaria church.
He is survived by three sons, Clarence W. Atkinson, Paris, Idaho, Arthur H. Atkinson. Brigham City, Utah, and Roger A. Atkinson J Sandy, Utah; one daughter, Mrs. Max (Ivy) East, Ogden, Utah; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lester W., Malad, and William S., Malad; and three sisters, Davinah A. Evans, Malad, Pearl A. Bradshaw, Firth, Idaho, and Hannah A. Davis, St. John, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his wife on Aug. 24, 1991, a son, David Sheldon, also two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at noon in the Malad LDS Fifth Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Benson-Horlsey Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad, tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturday prior to services. Burial will be in the Pleasantview Cemetery
