David Lloyd Evans, Jr. (1888)

June 29, 1888 – September 1, 1977

David Lloyd Evans, Jr., age 89, died Thursday, Sept. 1 of a long illness in the Oneida County Nursing Home. He was born June 29, 1888 at Malad City, a son of D.L. and Mary Williams Evans. He married Margaret Thomas July 30, 1913 in St. John.

Mr. Evans attended Malad schools, Utah State University, University of Utah, and Stanford University. He was an electrical engineer, banker, merchant and farmer.

He was a member of the LDS Church, former president of the Malad Valley Irrigation District, former president and secretary of the Deep Creek Irrigation District and a former member of the Idaho State Reclamation Assn. He was a former member of the Lions Club, Malad Chamber of Commerce, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a member of No. 51 A.F. & A.M.

Survivors include his widow of Malad; three sons and one daughter: Governor John V. Evans, Boise; Roland T. Evans, Carmel, CA; Don S. Evans and Miss Mariemma Evans, both of Malad.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, D.L. Evans III, and a daughter, Neva Evans.

Funeral service was held Saturday at noon in the Malad Second LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Darrell Swartz officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Benson Funeral Home. Family prayer was offered by Neal Nelsen at the Benson Funeral Home. At the chapel, Bishop Swartz asked the invocation, the obituary was delivered by Ralph Jones, Jr.

Speaker was William Griff Jenkins. Asking the benediction was the Reverend S. Norman Naugler. Vocal selections were rendered by Jenkin L. Palmer, Myra Jean John played prelude and postlude music and accompanied.

Concluding rites were held in the Malad City Cemetery. Graveside service was performed by Malad Lodge No. 51, AF & AM, H.V. Peden, Worshipful Master.

Overseeing floral arrangements were the Acacia Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Shirley Grubb, Worthy Matron; and the ladies of the Evans Co-op and J.N. Ireland Bank.

Serving as honorary bearers were Malad Lodge No. 51, AF & AM; and personnel of Evans Co-op and J.N. Ireland Bank.

Casket bearers were David L. Evans, Don S. Evans, Jr., John V. Evans, Jr., Larry L. Evans, Roland T. Evans, Jr., Tom D. Evans, Frank Foss and Lamont Jones.
