Dave G. Higley

POCATELLO – Dave G. Higley 79, passed away on July 1, 2010, at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho.
Dave was born on March 13, 1931, at home in Lower Presto Idaho. He was the eighth child born to Willis D. Higley & Carrie Ann Hansen. He grew up on a farm near Firth, Idaho. He attended schools in Lower Presto and Firth. He enjoyed playing football in high school. He was drafted in April 1951. He served his country in the army during the Korean Conflict most of the time being stationed in England.
He married Alice Marie Hughes on May 29, 1953. They have been married for 57 years. They were sealed in the Ogden L.D.S. Temple on May 28, 1977.
After a honeymoon in California they started their married life in Blackfoot, Idaho.
He worked for Camacks dairy delivering milk. In 1954 they moved to Samaria and worked for Marie’s dad and uncle farming and milking cows for about a year. In 1956 they moved to Firth to farm his dad’s farm. Later buying his father’s farm Marie and Dave milked cows and farmed. He also worked at the R.T. French’s potatoe plant in Shelly, Idaho. They both worked hard on the farm. Dave had the sand hills leveled and improved the production of the farm and acres. Six children were born to Dave and Marie.
In 1974 they moved to Malad, to help with Maries Dads Ranch. Dave has enjoyed working with his sons and grandsons on the ranch with the cattle. He enjoyed putting up the hay for the cattle. He also worked at Lazy boy as a security guard.
Dave is high priest in the L.D.S. church. He enjoyed serving in the Sunday School Presidency. He is a very friendly person and enjoys visiting and telling jokes & stories to others. He is also very generous.
Dave has been active in his Community serving on the Irrigation board and the Samaria Grazing board some of the time as president. He was also very active in Farm Bureau and served as Oneida County President for several years.
Dave and Marie have helped raise several grandchildren including Blair Higley, Lane Higley and Amber Higley and are currently raising a great granddaughter Mackenzie Higley. Other grandchildren also felt it was home.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents Willis and Carrie Higley, 3 brothers Hans, Ralph, and Willard Higley and 2 sisters, Goldie Mitchell and Ellen Koford. He is survived by his wife, Marie, of Samaria, and children, Rick (Sandy) Higley, Malad, Lin (Patti) Higley, Malad, Levi (Debra) Higley, Fielding, Utah, Karen (Paul) Tubbs Malad, Karl(Paula) Higley, Utah and Ann (Shawn) Delaney, Pocatello. He is also survived by 32 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Malad LDS 2nd ward chapel, 20 S. 100 W. Friends may visit with the Higley family on Tuesday evening, July 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Horsley Funeral Home,132 W. 300 N. and on Wednesday at the funeral home from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Samaria Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion, Ernest W.
