Darlene Allen Althouse

Darlene Allen Althouse, 70, died June 17,  2018 in Twin Falls following a short battle with cervical cancer.  She was born April 6,1948 and immediately welcomed into the loving family of Frank and Duluth Allen and older sister, Stephanie. Until 1953 they resided in Spokane Washington when they moved to Malad, Idaho to run the family farm.  Darlene graduated from Malad HS and subsequently attended vocational schools in Pocatello and Twin Falls.  In 1978, she married Raymond Althouse (aka Rusty Nail, active in the Twin Falls CB club).  Their son, Ira Allen Althouse, was born July 1981.  Following her husband’s death in 1996, she continued to provide for her family by working various jobs, sometimes more than one at a time. Whether cleaning motel rooms, a crossing guard, in a nursing home kitchen or school cafeteria (Robert Stuart, for one) or night shift supervisor at the county jail kitchen, she worked hard and relaxed by crocheting for family members and donating items to charitable  groups.  Darlene enjoyed keeping in touch with family/friends/classmates and will be remembered as a congenial person – joshing with everyone she met.  Darlene shared her life with her son, Ira and her beloved seven year old granddaughter, Lettie. She is also survived by her sister, Stephanie Allen of Prescott, AZ.

The family thanks Serenity Healthcare and Harrison’s Hope Hospice for their compassionate care and recognizes Serenity Funeral Chapel and Horsley Funeral Home for their assistance. Her ashes will be buried in Malad City Cemetery   Under the care of Horsley Funeral Home.
