Daniel “Monte” LaMonte Wakley

Lamont Daniel Wakley passed away September 9, 2018 at his home in Downey, Idaho. He was born May 30, 1931 in Downey, Idaho to Daniel Lavern and Mary Edna Evans Wakley.

He grew up and attended school from elementary through high school in Downey, where he excelled in sports, his favorites being football and boxing.

On his parents 20th anniversary he met the love of his life Lavona Rushton. They were married September 16, 1950 in Malad, Idaho.

He was married for five months when he was drafted into the Army and had to leave his expecting wife. He was sent to Seattle, Washington then Fort Eustis, Virginia. While there his first son Robert was born on October 28, 1951. Then he was sent to Toolie, Greenland. He was released from the service in February of 1953.

He came home to Malad where he worked as head of Malad farming/ranch hand for Richard Andrew for a year then for Lavar Christofferson for a year.  Mont spent the next two years painting for Herman Hausener. His second son Daniel was born December 25, 1953. His only daughter Kay was born March 10, 1955.

In 1956 Mont moved to Holbrook Idaho and went to work for Lou Baker in potatoes for a year.  His third son Kevin was born January 23, 1957. In April 1957 he went to work for Waldow Blaisdell former/ranch hand. His fourth on Cory was born May 16, 1958. His fifth son Mike was born October 31, 1959. On March 29, 1965 Lamonte and Lavona solemnized their marriage in the Logan Temple. Mont lived in Holbrook until 1967.

In 1967 he moved to West Warren, Utah and went to work at Muirbrook Dairy farm milking cows for the next ten years.

In 1977 he moved to Hyrum, Utah and went to work for Richard Miller as a farmer/ranch hand with some milking. Working in Hyrum, Utah and Malta Idaho for Richard until 1980 when Richard sold his dairy. He then went to work for Brent Parker until 1995.

In 1995 when Mont retired he moved back home to his old stomping grounds in Downey, Idaho. Back to the homestead, where he spent the remainder of his years.

He is survived by his son Robert & Verna of Bancroft, Idaho, son Daniel of Layton, Utah, Daughter Kay & David Hansen of Cortez, Colorado, son Kevin of Ogden, Utah, son Cory & Theresa of Tremonton, Utah, son Mike of Ogden, Utah, 27 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren & 7 nieces.

Mont was preceded in death by his loving wife Lavona, parents Daniel & Edna, sister Donna Kay, brother Darrell, daughter in law Melissa, grandson Cassidy, granddaughter Amanda Sue & nephew Devearl Stowell.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 13 at 12 noon in the Downey LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Thursday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Downey Cemetery.
