D. C. Dalton, children of

Dalton Children (Birth abt 1903 & 1911/Death 30 Jan 1911)

Two small children, one boy about 8 years of age and a 2 month old baby, children of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Dalton were drowned in a terrible accident in Arbon Valley. The accident happened either the 18th of January or the 30th.

The following is a copy from the Bannock Valley History Book, pg. 288 of how the accident happened:

“Tuesday evening Ed H. Davis and John Infanger came over from Arbon and brought the first information of an accident which occurred Monday at that place and which resulted in the drowning of three small children, one baby only two months old.

The D. C. Dalton and E. T. Andersen families visited Sunday with some friends, and stayed overnight. Monday they started home, all in one sleigh. The heavy rains and resultant thaw caused quite a stream of water to run in every hollow, and, while crossing one of these, the sleigh was tipped completely over, covering all the occupants except Mr. Dalton. He was able to raise the box the moment he did so, they were all swept down the stream. Of the 13 people in the sleigh, all escaped but three children, two of them an eight year old boy and a two month old babe, being the children of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Dalton and a six year old boy, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Anderson.”
