Cheryl Jean Chipman Cowlishaw

Cheryl Jean Chipman Cowlishaw of Clinton, Utah died Monday, March 13, 2006 of scleroderma and renal failure. She was 62, and had bravely fought illness since fall, 2003.

She was born in Santa Monica, California on January 6, 1944, to Francis Adair Bell Williams and Wayne Egbert Chipman. She grew up and completed high school in the Los Angeles area, then attended Brigham Young University for a year.

On July 13, 1963 Cheryl married David Cowlishaw in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. In 1970 she and David moved to Orem, Utah while David earned his teaching degree at BYU. In 1974 she and her family moved to Malad, Idaho where they lived until 2002.

Cheryl worked for 27 years in the Oneida County Hospital and Nursing Home, as an insurance clerk. Patients and their families frequently commented on how caring and helpful she was. Somehow, though, she always made time to help her husband and four children in their work and activities. She also generously donated her time and effort to charitable causes such as the American Cancer Society, Pennies by the Inch, and various Malad fundraisers. She was a highly skilled, creative cook, especially when it came to baking; her family always enjoyed her tasty treats. She enjoyed driving with Kaylene to Pocatello or Logan to do the family’s shopping on weekends. Cheryl loved animals, particularly cats. She retired in 2001 and the following year moved to Clinton, where she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, David Cowlishaw, of Clinton; her son, Brian Cowlishaw, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; her son, Chad Cowlishaw, or Provo; her son Jared Cowlishaw of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; her daughter, Kayleen Spraker, of Syracuse; and four grandchildren, Gabrielle Cowlishaw, Jake Cowlishaw, Gavin Spraker and Hailey Spraker.

Her viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, march 15 at the Roy Lindquist Mortuary. Her funeral services will also be held there at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 16.
