Charles Douglas Buehler

MALAD – Charles Douglas Buehler, 77, passed away Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, of heart failure.

He was born March 23, 1920, in Daniels, Idaho, to Fred and Veda Buehler. Charlie was the sixth of seven children. His parents homesteaded in Daniels, and from them, he learned hard work and dedication to getting the job done properly.

He attended schools in Daniels and Malad. He also attended Utah State University, where he met Pauline Hyer. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on June 20, 1944.

The following November he was inducted into the U.S. Army, where he served for two years in the Philippines and Japan. While overseas, their daughter Marilyn was born, Charlie first saw her when she was 18 months old.

Charlie farmed with his father in Daniels, and in his early years of marriage, worked construction during the winters in Logan, Ogden and Pocatello.

He enjoyed farming with his son and grandsons, later selling the farm to his son, Don. He took great pride in the ranch.

His public service has included two terms as Oneida County commissioner, two terms as Malad City councilman, nine years as supervisor of the Oneida County Soil Conservation, president of the Malad Lions Club, president of the National Farmers Union.

He served as chairman of the airport board. Charlie loved to fly.

Charlie served in the LDS Church as YM president, councilor in the First Ward Bishopric, president of the Stake Sunday School and high priest-group leader.

He recently completed a two-year stake mission with his wife, Pauline.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline of Malad; one son and four daughters, Marilyn (Jim) Johnson of Reseda, Calif.; Don C. (Debbie) Buehler of Malad; Janice (Stan) Palmer of Idaho Falls, Lois (Randy) Willie of Malad; Carol (Brad) Atkinson of Hyde Park, Utah.

The Buehlers also raised a foster daughter, Charlene (Randy) Jordan) who has two children.

He also is survived by 24 grandchildren, 12 boys and 12 girls, and a sister, Twila Isaacson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at noon in the Malad LDS First Ward chapel, 308 N.(?) 400 N. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 332 W. 300 N., today Feb. 8, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Monday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post 65.
