Carroll Burrup Cornelison

IDAHO FALLS – On August 14, 1998, God called home one of his chosen spirits. Carroll Fern Burrup Cornelison passed away at her home in the company of her family just as she would have wished. Her passing leaves a giant void in th world around her.

Fern was born December 2. 1914, in Grant, Idaho, to James Lee and Mary Salverson Burrup. Fern was the third of 11 children. She grew up and went to school in the Downey, Idaho, area.

Fern met a charming young man from Chesterfield, Idaho – Hurdis Arlo Cornelison. They were married on April 2, 1934, in the Soda Springs courthouse. Fern was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The marriage of Hurdis and Fern was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 13, 1951.

After living in small towns and sheep camps, they settled in Pingree, Idaho, in 1939. They reared their family in Pingree, Idaho. In 1976, they moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Quilting was a hobby and passion of Fern’s. Fern kept many people warm at night with her beautiful quilts. Every grandchild and great-grandchild lovingly received one of her quilts.

For several years every new baby in the Idaho Falls 29th Ward got a new baby quilt made for them by Fern. There are unfinished quilts in her sewing room as this is being written. She was admired for her integrity and willingness to share her talents and to be of service.

Fern is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, a brother, Ray Burrup of Cane Bed, Arizona; a brother Max (Anita) Burrup of Richland, Washington; a sister, Gena Lee (Merrill) Evans of Blackfoot, seven children, Jay Lee (Lawana) Cornelison of Pingree , Idaho, and their children Dale, Boyd, Jaylene, Wendy and Sheena; Carl (Sherwin) Broadhead of Reardon, Washington and their children, Tamara, Roxane, and Bill; Linda (Frank) Exler of Roberts and her sons, Scott and Kelly; Kent (Bonnie) Cornelison of Idaho Falls, Idaho and his sons, Brian, Troy and Brock; Keith (Karen) Cornelison of Parker, Idaho, and their children, Brent, Todd, Wade and Tara; Laura (Byron) Evans of Roberts, Idaho, and their children, Julie, Jeff, Chad, Brent, Carolyn, Diane and Dustin; Susan (Don) Reed of South Jordan, Utah, and their children, Heidi, Lindsay and Adam; 27 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Reed Burrup, Holt Burrup, and Ross Burrup; four sisters, Gladys Williams, None Vaughan, June Burrup and Gayle Bales; and a grandson, Kurt Cornelison and a great-granddaughter, Camille Akiyama.

The family would especially like to thank the staff on the fourth floor of EIRMC and the staff of hospice for their gentle care and understanding.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 1998, at the Idaho Falls Woodruff First Ward. Bishop J.C. Hart will officiate at the services.

The family will meet with friends tonight, August 16, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Wood Funeral Home and again Monday morning at the church one hour prior to services.

Burial will be in Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
