Bruce Marlin Dredge

SODA SPRINGS – Bruce Marlin Dredge, 61, of Soda springs, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2006 at home of a heart attack.

He was born September 1, 1944 at Sod Springs, the son of Wilford John and Vera May Allen Dredge. Bruce was raised and educated in Soda Springs, graduating from Soda Springs High School in 1962. He also graduated from Brigham Young University in 1968.

Bruce married Martha Lee Johns January 25, 1968 in the Los Angeles LDS Temple.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He lived in Biloxi, Miss., and San Bernardino, Calif. While in the Air Force. He also taught seminary in Driggs, Idaho, returning to Soda Springs in 1971, where he had been a cattle rancher.

He was a high priest in the Grays Lake LDS Ward. He had served an LDS mission to the Alaskan-Canadian mission from 1963-65. He had been a seminary teacher, elder’s quorum president, executive secretary, a stake high counselor, bishop, stake president’s counselor, stake president, Young Men’s president and a ward missionary.

Bruce was active in business and civic activities. He was the founder of the Grays Lake Rodeo; he served on the Caribou County Planning and Zoning Commission; Caribou County Fair Board; Caribou County Commissioner; Caribou County Hospital board member; he served as a member of Catastrophic Health Care Cost Program; past president and board member of the Idaho Assoc. of Counties; a member of the Idaho Counties Risk Management program; and he ws the 2005 recipient of the Mills-Alder Award for outstanding county commissioner.

He was also a member of the Idaho Citizens Grazing Assoc. and the Idaho Cattle Assoc.

His hobbies were his family and all of their activities.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Martha, of Soda Springs; two sons and two daughters and their spouses, B. Matt and Melinda Dredge, Chubbuck, Idaho, Drew Dredge, Soda Springs, Kristie and Matt Dorsey, Caldwell, Idaho, Rebecca and John Sweers, Soda Springs, Idaho, and Michelle and Jace Katseanes, Pocatello, Idaho. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Wyatt, Weston, DeLaynie Dorsey, Michael, Amberlee, Ashley and Benjamin Dredge and Treyson Katseanes; his mother, Vera May Dredge, Soda Springs; and two brothers and two sisters, W. Lynn and Annette Dredge, Tulare, Calif., R. Alan and Cheryl Dredge, St. George, Utah, Dianne and Chad Smith, Bountiful, Utah, and Karen Fryar, Clifton, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his father and two nephews, Russell John Dredge and Daniel Brandon Fryar.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 26 at noon at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center with Bishop Scott Evans officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday evening, Jan. 25 at the Sims Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday at the stake center from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
