Boyd Van Horn, (1919)

Funeral held for Boyd VanHorn, 58. (death 3 Apr 1978)

Funeral services were held April 7th at American Falls for Boyd Van Horn, 58, who died in a veterans’ hospital at Palo Alto, California April 3rd following heart surgery.

Mr. Van Horn was born May 23, 1919, in Arbon Valley to Lee E. and Nola D. Johnson Van Horn. He attended school in Arbon and then farmed with his father.

He entered the Army Feb. 20, 1941, and served in the Italian campaign, the South France campaign, and the Germany campaign. He received numerous decorations, including the Silver Star, seven Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster, and the Croix de Guerre. He was a gunsmith and bulldozer operator.

He was discharged in June of 1946. He married Betty Ward in American Falls June 20, 1946. He continued working on the farm for a time before going into construction at Promontory Point employed by Morris Knudson Co. He worked for Mack Boiler and for the last 12 years had been employed as the foreman and mechanic for Kent Brothers Trucking in American Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; his mother Nola; two daughters, Diana K. Hernandez and Barbara Van Horn, and one son, Gary D. Van Horn, all of American Falls; one brother, Hubert, Pocatello; one sister, Mrs. George (Fern) England, American Falls; and seven grandchildren.
