Betty Jean Morrison Thompson

LOGAN – Our loving mother and grandmother, Betty Jean Morrison Thompson, 85, passed away at Logan Regional Hospital surrounded by her family on Monday, January 10, 2011.

She was born December 22, 1925, in Downey, Idaho, a daughter of William Andrew and Louise Schultz Morrison.

She was raised and educated in Marsh Center and Downey. She graduated from Downey High School in 1943.

She married Orville Thayne Thompson in the Idaho Falls Idaho LDS temple on September 10, 1946. They attended college at Utah State University and worked in Union, Oregon, before moving to Virginia, Idaho, in 1952 where they farmed and ranched for 48 years. After Thayne’s death in 2000, she moved to Logan, Utah, where she has since resided.

Betty was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she had served in various callings through the years. She was ward and stake Primary president, Young Women leader, member of the Sunday School, Primary and Relief Society stake boards and a teacher in all organizations. She, along with her husband, served as Logan Temple officiators.

She was very involved in 4-H. She also belonged to the hospital auxiliary and American Legion auxiliary in Downey. She served on the Farm Bureau women’s committee and county homemaking committee.

Betty loved to support her children and grandchildren in all their activities. She was an avid reader and loved to sew. She also enjoyed working on family history.

She is survived by her daughters, Annette (Curtis) Pope of Burley, Idaho; Beverly (Mark) Faldmo of Farmington, Utah; Cynthia (David) Harris of Hyde Park, Utah; Dorilee (Wayne) Clegg of Soda Springs, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; sister, Verda Miller, Pocatello, Idaho; brothers, Reed (June) Morrison, Ivins, Utah; Darrell and Dee Morrison, Pocatello, Idaho; brother-in-law, Stanton Yearsley, Swan Lake, Idaho; sisters-in-law, Ila Mae Morrison, Bountiful, Utah; and Dwon Morrison, Downey, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Fay Day and Joy Yearsley; brothers, Leland Morrison, Oren Morrison, Kenneth Morrison; sisters-in-law Adele Morrison, Oline Morrison, Treva Morrison; brother-in-law, Merle Day; and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 17, 2011, at noon in the Arimo, Idaho, LDS Stake Center. Friends and family may call at Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home, 570 N Meadowview Dr., Arimo, Idaho, Sunday, January 16, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Downey City Cemetery
