Berenice Engleberg

Berenice Engleberg died at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 29, 2010. She was 94 years old.
Berenice, affectionately known as Bubu by her grandchildren, was born to Sam and Annie Matz on December 18, 1915 in Malad, Idaho. The family moved to Magna, Utah where she was raised and graduated from Cypress High School. She attended the University of California at Berkeley and received her B.A. and M.S. W. degrees from the University of Utah.
She married Ben Engleberg in 1944. Berenice worked as a social worker for the State of Utah for 35 years before retiring. She was an active member of the Salt Lake Jewish Community, belonging to Kol Ami Synagogue, the Jewish Community Center and many organizations.
She enjoyed the piano, ballet, symphony and opera. She was a voracious reader of all subjects.
She was preceded in death by her husband her siblings; Ruth McCrimmon and Sidney Matz.
She is survived by her son, David (Charlene) Engleberg; her four grandchildren, Rachel (Yuval) Moskovich, Rebecca Garbawl, Leah and Louis Engleberg and three great-grandchildren, Tamar and Naomi Moskovich and Benjamin Garbawl.
A graveside service will be held at Monteflore Cemetery on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Ramah of the Rockies, c/o Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado at 300 Dahlia St., Denver, CO 80220.
Shiva will be observed at 1122 Denver St. Thursday evening from 1 p.m.-8 p.m. and all day Friday. Services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 a.m. Friday morning.
