Ben Wadsworth Call

Ben Wadsworth Call, 83, of Logan, Utah, passed away peacefully with his devoted wife by his side on Monday, January 2, 2000 in the Sunshine Terrace, after an extended illness.
He was born January 4, 1916 in Syracuse, Utah, a son of Lawrence and Bertha Wadsworth Call. He was raised and educated in Elkhorn and Malad, Idaho, and graduated from Malad High. Ben married Thelma Hughes on December 22, 1939 in the Logan temple. She passed away November 13, 1971. He later married Cleo Burt Thompson November 15, 1972 in the Ogden Temple.
Ben was proud to serve in the air force in the south Pacific during World War II. He had more than fifty years of service in the American Legion.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many positions including the Bishopric. He was a High Priest at the time of his death. Ben and Cleo served a mission in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1984 and officiated in the Logan Temple.
Ben was self-employed as an excavation contractor and was meticulous in performing his chosen profession. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, traveling and most of all spending time with his family. Ben was loved by all who knew him. He had a gentle spirit, was slow to anger and quick to help.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cleo, one son, Ben H (Jane) Call of Blackfoot, Idaho; two daughters: Elna (Larry) Allen of Portage, Utah, and Mary Ann ( Darrell) Dalrymple of Hazelton, Idaho; two stepsons: Val Dean ( Sherrin) Thompson of Providence, Utah, and Craig Burt ( Debbie) Thompson of Kaysville, Utah; one stepdaughter, Susann (Blaine) Hancey of Providence, Utah; 21 grandchildren ( one currently serving in the Miami, Florida, LDS mission) and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers: Phil W. (Delores) Call of Ogden, Utah, Vern W. ( Elaine) Call of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Monte W. ( Barbara) Call of Malad, Idaho; two sisters: June Williams of South Jordan, Utah, and Geraldine ( Byron ) Olsen of Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma, his parents, a brother Rex Call, and a brother-in-law Floyd Williams.
Funeral Service is being held today, Thursday, January 6, 2000 at 12 noon in the Malad 2nd-5th Ward, with Bishop Jay Hansen conducting. Friends may call at the Horsley funeral home today from 10-11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
