Audrey Rachel Hawkins Patterson

Audrey Rachel Hawkins Patterson passed away peacefully on April 8, 2016, at the Woodland Park Care Center surrounded by family. Born October 8, 1936, in Malad, Idaho the second child of Joseph Richard and Thelma Burrows Hawkins. Audrey loved growing up on the ranch in Daniels, north of Malad, surrounded by the beautiful mountains, horses and wildlife. While battling polio at the age of 16 Audrey developed her strong sense of determination and perseverance. There wasn’t anything that she couldn’t accomplish once she set her mind to it. She graduated from Malad High School in 1955. Audrey married Melvin Reed Spencer on March 19, 1955, later solemnized in the LDS Logan Temple on April 16, 1965. She had 3 children and loved spending time with her family. In her younger years, she enjoyed artwork and associating with clubs, such as the Cowbells. She loved and supported her children in all their school activities and sports. After her divorce to Melvin, she married Bob Patterson of Malta, Idaho where she gained additional family members that she loved. One of the highlights of Audrey’s life was spending many years living next to the beautiful Salmon River in Riggins, Idaho where she and Bob had many friends. She had a quick wit and sense of humor and enjoyed socializing with family and friends. We all enjoyed listening to her stories, many of which reflected her love of the outdoors and included the adventures that she so much enjoyed in the mountains. The family would like to thank the staff at the Woodland Park Care Center for the love and support that they gave during the last three years, especially Aaron and Lance that pushed her to become strong enough to accomplish the last things on her bucket list. Survivors include: her children, Melvin R. Spencer (Myungha) of North Carolina, Rachel Suzanne Barkley of Utah, and Robert R. Spencer (Shannon) of Utah, her grandchildren Melina Spencer, Marissa Spencer, Lawona Barkley, Erin (Josh) Rowley, Chase (Kayla) Spencer, Landon Spencer and Makenna Spencer. Preceded in death by her husband, Bob Patterson, parents, J.R. and Thelma Hawkins, her sister Thelma Annie Evans, her brothers, Joseph Richard Hawkins, Dale Burrows Hawkins, and Thomas Griffiths Hawkins and one great-granddaughter Amanda Barkley.
