Arthur Kenneth Lowry

Arthur-Kenneth-Lowry

Logan, Utah….Arthur Kenneth Lowry, 78, passed away Wednesday January 9, 2013 following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his family at his home in Logan at the time of his passing. He was born May 30th 1934, in Hawkins Basin, Idaho, to Arthur Q. and Norma Hall Lowry. He was welcomed into their family by an older brother and sister and followed by a brother and sister.
Kenneth grew up in Marsh Valley playing and working in a farm environment where he learned to love to work the land. He graduated from North Marsh High School. Following High School he married his childhood sweetheart Betty Jo Hatch, on November 1, 1952. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple. Dad and Mom have been married over 60 years.
Ken, always a hard worker, began supporting his young family working for the railroad, the school district, and farming. After a time they moved from their home in Arimo, Idaho to Utah where he was employed at Thiokol for over 36 years. He continued his education at Utah State while working full time and by sheer determination finally obtained his degree. Because getting an education came at such difficulty and sacrifice he instilled and encouraged his family to obtain their educations as well.
At Thiokol he worked in many jobs, but primarily as a Manufacturing Engineer. He was one of the original team that produced the remarkable space shuttle rockets. Though an engineer by profession, his heart belonged to the dry farm and he loved returning to his roots in Arimo and working the family farm.
Ken enjoyed trips with family, a good camp out, hunting, a fun motor bike ride, and especially some solitude fishing a clear mountain stream or lake. Later in life he became an avid Utah Jazz fan and rarely missed any games if they were on T.V.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served in various capacities including Missionary work, Executive Secretary and the name extraction program.
He is survived by his wife Betty Jo Lowry of Logan, Utah; five children Annette Moser (Kelle) Smithfield, Utah; Kenneth Simmons Lowry (Debbie) Nibley, Utah; Teresa Smith (Alan) Enterprise, Alabama; Bruce Lowry (Michelle) Chubbuck, Idaho; Gregory Lowry (Mireille) Hyrum, Utah; 19 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and a younger sister, Faye Laudie (John) American Fork, Utah.
He was met on the other side by his parents, 2 brothers, a sister, and a great grandson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 14th at 12:00 noon at the Hillcrest 2nd LDS Ward chapel, 875 N. 1500 E. Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held at the church on Sunday January 13, 2013 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and prior to the funeral services 10:30 -11:45a.m. A graveside service will be held at the Arimo Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. following the services.
