MALAD – Annie Rachel Nielsen Atkinson, 94, of Samaria, and wife of the late Alfred Levi Atkinson, passed away Saturday, January 17, 1998 in the Oneida County Nursing Home.

She was born November 23, 1903 in Hyrum, Utah, a daughter of John Carl and Annie Josephine Eliason Nielsen. She attended school In Hyrum and Pocatello Valley, where her parents had homesteaded.

She married Alfred Levi Atkinson on April 2, 1925 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Mr. Atkinson passed away September 16, 1980.

Rachel was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, and was active in Relief Society and the Young Women’s organization.

She was also a member of he Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

She is survived by her children, Shirley (George) Muirbrook of Ogden, Utah, Dennis N. Atkinson of Smithfield, Utah, Gerald N. (Carol) Atkinson, serving the the Nashville, Tennessee LDS mission, Keith (Carolyn) Atkinson of Malad; a sister, Sylvia (William) Ward of Pocatello; 25 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22, 1998 at noon in the Malad LDS Second Ward Chapel, located at 20 South 100 West.

Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.

Burial will be in the Samaria Cemetery Services are under the direction of the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, Malad.
