Anna Faye Nielsen Jones

Lava Hot Springs…Anna Faye Nielsen Jones, 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, December 22 [, 2018]. She was the youngest of six born to Andrew and Violet Nielsen on August 18, 1923 in Gunnison, Utah. She was raised in Ephraim, Utah and came back to live and work there after having worked in Manti, Utah folding parachutes, San Francisco as a secretary, and Ogden, Utah where she was a “Rosy Riveter” at the U.S. Army Hillfield (Currently Hill Air Force Base) toward the end of WWII.

After returning to Ephraim, it was in a drug store where she worked that she met Sheldon Jones from Malad, Idaho in 1948. He was attending Snow College in Ephraim where he played football and baseball for the Badgers. They were later married on June 11, 1949. They moved to Logan Utah where Sheldon graduated in Business Ed. When he was hired at Marsh Valley High School in 1951, they moved to Lava Hot Springs and never left, raising their three kids: Jeff (Marilee) Jones, Chris (Richard) Vaughan, and Wendy (Bob) McCain.

In 1972, Faye was hired as the school secretary for Marsh Valley High School where she worked for 17 years. She loved this job along with the many staff and students who attended MVHS.

Faye loved to golf during the summers with “The Girls” and did so for many years. She was a wonderful homemaker and an extremely talented seamstress. She also knitted beautiful afghans and sweaters for her family and friends. She loved her kids and pursued their dreams along with them, always their silent cheerleader. It multiplied when she became a grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than being with her family, friends, and her faithful dog, Fred.

Faye is preceded in death by her loving husband, Sheldon Jones, her parents, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 28 at 12 noon in the Lava Hot Springs LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may visit with the family from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Lava Cemetery. Faye’s children would like to thank those employees of Encompass for the loving care they gave their mother, and for all the many wonderful friends who loved her.
