Alta May Briggs

Rigby – Alta May Briggs, 90 of Lewisville, died Sept 1, 1993, in and Idaho Falls care center of natural causes.

She was born Oct. 8, 1902 at Woodruff, Utah, to Charles Minor and Elizabeth Graham Frazier. She attended schools in Woodruff and at Idaho Falls High School.

On June 7, 1922, she married Jesse Clarence Briggs in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1972. He died in 1974.

She was an active member of the LDS Church. She loved poetry. During World War II and the Korean War, she wrote letters to many servicemen. She was a former correspondent for the Rigby Star.

Survivors include her children, Mrs. Joe (Lova) Sievers of Garfield, Mrs. C.R. (Ellen) Blackwood of Filer, Mrs. Ardell (Melba) Jeppsen of Benejamin, Utah, Mrs. Louis (Leone) Nixon of Provo, Utah, Mrs. Ross (Darlene) Moser of Grant, Leon Briggs of Firth, Bill Briggs of Menan, and Charles Briggs of Lewisville; two sister, Mrs. Lowell (Leone) Greenhalgh of Elk Bend, and Ellen Brummet of Chula Vista, Calif; 38 grandchildren; 98 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Lewisville LDS 2nd Ward with Bishop S. Kay Foster officiating. The family will meet with friends Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Lewisville Cemetery.
